ABOUT THE TEACHER AND COURSE

Hello Parents and Students,

I welcome you to seventh grade math on the voyager team. I look forward to what this year has in store for us. Here on the voyager team, we believe that hard work and dedication is the most important aspect to success in the middle school environment. Before we get to involve, I would like to take this time to introduce myself so that we will not be strangers.

To start off, I am Mr. Jason Hill. I have been a Commodore now for three years. I enjoy every minute at Central, as the students always seem to make my day even better than it started. The one quality that I hold has a teacher might possibly be my energy and enthusiasm to engage learners in high levels critical thinking and learning. Having a math degree, I love challenging students in their ability to think mathematically and realize that math is all around them in the "REAL WORLD". I have always felt that students make a class fun and interesting. This is especially true for the new era of math. I always try to engage students in activities that are not only fun but engaging. I always want students to leave the class with the confidence that they can tackle any problem using critical thinking and reason. In having a military background, I hold high expectations for all my students. Some of the expectations that I set for students are: Not giving up, giving their very best, organization, responsibility, confidence, and perserverance. It is my duty to developed students with decisions that are best for them. I want to ensure parents that their students recieve the best education when entering my class. Once again, I look foward to our journey this year.

COURSE INFORMATION

As students have progress through school learning about whole numbers, integers, and rational numbers. This course relies heavily on students knowledge of rational numbers, which includes fractions and decimals. The students must know what fraction means and being comfortable in using fractions. Pre-Algrebra uses fractions for every standard. They will be expected to use them on such things as unit test, DCAs, and the ACT.

Time and time again, I have students score low on students due to low performance on basic operations such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. No matter how hard the material may get, all skills revert back to the four basic operations learned early in elementary mathematics. I recommend that all students get very familar with multiplication tables.

ALGEBRA

Although the course contains Geometry, probability and statistics, A large portion of the course revolves the student's ability to solve equations. This skill appears early in the course and continues throughout. I would recommend watching some videos on solving one-step equations and solving two-step equations on youtube prior to starting school. However, it is using the four basic operations determine the missing number.
